Since wars begin in the minds of men and women, it is in the minds of men and women that the defences of peace must be constructed.
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Constitution
May 21st is World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. UNESCO initiates programs aimed at working together kindly and maintaining peace through countries cooperating together in education, sciences and culture.
We can each help build diversity and cultural tolerance individually in our own lives and communities. We can learn from the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of people different to us and continue to build our minds and characters, and spread good ideas to our families and communities. This way we can work together and contribute to UNESCO’s very worth goals:
- Support sustainable systems of governance for culture
- Achieve a balanced flow of cultural goods and services and increase mobility of artists and cultural professionals
- Integrate culture in sustainable development frameworks
- Promote human rights and fundamental freedoms
