It takes courage to stand and share your truth. It also takes courage to sit and open-mindedly listen to another’s.
We are a group oriented species, relying on each other for physical and emotional needs, but we don’t all see the world the same way. Those of us living in civilizations with religious freedom have had the opportunity to safely explore our own views to find those that resonate with us. Still there are mainstreams of thought and expectation running through every culture, and group of people. To stand against the tide and be able to say “this is what I honestly think” is a courageous thing to do. And it is beautiful. Opening our minds and hearts to fellow humans who have differing views, and embracing possible cognitive dissonance is also a courageous act.
Let’s all be courageous.
