An asexual person is someone who is not sexually attracted to anyone, or has a low to absent interest or desire in sexual activity. The flag was chosen and adopted amongst the international ace community in 2010. The purple stripe represents community, the white stripe represents non or asexual allies and partners, the gray stripe represent demisexuality and gray asexuality, and the black stripe represent asexuality.
As an orientation it is different from celibacy or abstention which are choices of behaviour and generally motivated by belief. Only a small percentage of people embrace the asexual orientation as adults in recognition of natural desire or lack of desire. Some asexual people do engage in sex despite their initial physical inclination because they want to pleasure their partners, engage in intimacy, or have children.
